This is very true, Guvnah. All winter I wear pretty basic sweaters and jeans/slacks, but I add a lot of funky accessories, especially bracelets and necklaces, cute jackets and pointy-toed boots, which make your legs look longer (it's really true what Stacy and Clinton say).

In the summer, same deal, but with T-shirts and tanks, maybe some skirts instead of jeans -- funky accessories, cute jackets, cute shoes but the clothes? Pretty basic.

Dresses are big for me too. Sweater dresses in the winter -- so warm and cozy plus it's so nice just having one piece to throw on. Undies, tights, dress, boots. In the summer: undies, shoes, dress. Simple!!!

Firstly, sin, you are tres adorable, so don't sweat it.

But, as someone who has been commissioned by numerous friends to do their accessories shopping for them, the secret is in the details. Get some cute costume jewelry (H+M, the sale rack at Macys, Forever 21, whatever) and have that be the focal point of an otherwise basic outfit. I rock basic work trousers and cardigans or t shirts in basic colors (mostly grey, black, green, purple) with some fun (and big!) earrings, chunky rings, or a cool necklace.

But I strictly abide by the rule of removing one piece of jewelry after I get dressed every morning to avoid overkill.

This plus my "I don't give a fuck" attitude = awesomeness. At least in my own mind...

Love this!
Love the no-fashion, as I worship at that altar too. I tend to shop at Costco, Reitmans, and Targat when I'm in the US.

I'm going to Las Vegas next week and while my husband is at his nerd conference, baby and I will be hitting the aforementioned Costco, Target, maybe even a Gap outlet.

Fashion Sensei, your site is also excellent! Bookmarking now.

I love the fact that you come right out and say it like that. IT's absolutely charming and confident. Who says no-style can't be a style.

My mother sounds a lot like yours, but the Chinese version. Fortunately, I went through an extended period of punkish ennui and learned how to apply eyeliner. Meanwhile I'm still stealing my dad's sweaters and wearing ripped jeans with pluggers (thongs, flip flops, whatever you want to call them) and for some reason no one at work seems to mind. They think I'm alternative and stylish, poor fools.
