Did y’all catch this hilarious video? It’s of our dear, almost-departing President at a closed-door fundraiser in Texas (apparently the only place where he’s actually wanted these days), Bush claimed that the mortgage-crisis-cum-financial market disasters of the past year are the fault of Wall Street gettin’ drunk and now having a hangover. Good analogy for a former drunk like himself, I’d say. He said:

“There’s no question about it,” Mr Bush said. “Wall Street got drunk, that’s one of the reasons I asked you to turn off the TV cameras. It got drunk and now it’s got a hangover. The question is how long will it sober up and not try to do all these fancy financial instruments.”

LOL. I love how Republicans, and Bush especially is amazing at this, pretend they’re just down-home simple folk that don’t understand those big-city ideas. “All these fancy financial instruments … Golly gee, I just don’t understand these big finance words that confuse me! Those crazy Wall Streeters just done got all drunky.” Surely a man from a family of businessmen going back to the 19th century — his grandfather Prescott Bush being, by golly!, a Wall Street banking exec and director (we’ll save gramp’s ties to Hitler for another day).

But what Bush fails to mention is that under his administration, he went and deregulated just about every single industry — the environment, industrial and financialand basically just about everything else. It’s the NeoCon way. They deregulate to the point of ruin and then blame the greedy business fucks that take advantage of it. It’s what Reagan did, it’s what Bush’s father did and it’s what Bush II has done to the most disastrous results to date. Granted, at least Reagan and Bush I could claim a certain level of basic competence, even if they were completely wrong.  Bush cannot even claim a modicum of competence in anything his administration has attempted.

Look around you. Think of anything with ties to the government: education, financial markets, the military, abortion rights, women’s rights, minority rights everymotherfuckin thing and you can see how Bush’s boys have managed to infiltrate it, deregulate it, and bring it to ruin. Do y’all remember when the Army used to cook its own meals? Before KBR and Halliburton got paid millions to do it for us? It saved us money and it gave people a step to a career beyond the military. Did y’all know that they’re “rebuilding” New Orleans by making it a right-wing dream? They are privatizing schools (who needs pesky unions!), running off all the native (and mostly black) New Orleanders by buying up their flooded and damaged land and re-making it into what they would prefer: privatized to the max, White America.
And that’s just a few of the examples of Bush’s deregulation-happy tenure. One thing they love to regulate, however, is my uterus.

Bush blames Wall Street for getting drunk after showing them the way to the liquor cabinet and handing them the keys.

Oh and for all you laissez-faire enthusiasts: Bush has practiced your economic theory perfectly. Put down the Ayn Rand and just admit that your whole economic worldview is based on a theory that does not work.

I know Obama understands these failures perfectly.
